//sliiide

Please join me in welcoming ^sbaraci and ^oilsoaked to the Traditional Art Team. They're both awesome, so treat 'em good.

Semi-quick update for all of you. Remember; if you've any suggestions or questions, please do not hesitate to contact either me (or one of these fine persons above) in relation to the Traditional Art Gallery. If we cannot personally help you, we'll be sure to place it into the hands of someone who can.

//report Desk

We're still severely backed up as far as the Report Desk is concerned. We're slowly chipping away at it, but it seems for every Report we take care of three replace it. Don't worry, we'll get to them all; it's just taking a lot longer than anticipated. Thankyou all for being so proactive and helping us clean up the galleries. We truly appreciate it.

//scraps Gallery

Scraps. Ah, scraps. The misunderstood and often neglected gallery. I've spoken of this in the past, but re-iterating never hurt anyone:

Every deviant has one, whether or not you use it is ultimately up to you. It's there nonetheless, a perfect place to put anything you'd rather not have in your gallery.

Some perfect examples would be: Works in Progress, lined paper sketches, badly scanned in photographs, snapshots of you and your friends. Only refined pieces of art/literature should be in your gallery. This is who-you-are, is how you present yourself to the world on deviantART.

Yet, sometimes, you may find one of your refined deviations moved there. At first, this may confuse you. Hell, it might even piss you off. You might think to yourself, "What? Are they saying my work is crap?".

No. Not in the slightest.

There are a fair few reasons why your deviation may have been moved to Scraps. Up to but not limited to: We are unsure of where it should go (but know that it shouldn't be where it was), as a Holding Zone, or because it was one of the aforementioned reasons. There are so many deviations we deal with on a daily basis via the Report Desk that moving every one of them to the correct gallery is a feat in itself. We always attempt to, though. Know that.

If you're unsure, by all means do contact the ~helpdesk, but by all means do not move it back. It was definitely moved for a reason, to move it back into the same gallery doesn't accomplish anything. Submit your inquiry and wait for us to return back to you explaining why.

If you still feel this is in error, rationally explain why you believe it to be in the correct category. We're human, just like you, and may have misunderstood. In either case, we're here to help you help us make deviantART a wonderful smooth and enjoyable experience.

//copyright Violations

The Artist Relation team does not handle copyright violations. There is no if, ands, or buts about that. If you see a screen-shot, an image yanked from google, et cetera please, please, please report it as a Copyright Infringement and not a Miscategorisation.

I've seen a lot of deviations being reported that are actually Copyright Infringements. We at deviantART do not allow the upload of manipulated images found via the web (be it google, photobucket, or other). If you happen to come across any, please report it as a Copyright Violation and not and Miscategorisation. The only exception to this is legally used stocks either found via deviantART or other stock sites (sxc.hu, et cetera) and credited as such in the Artist Commentary.

//daily Deviation Suggestions

If you would like to suggest a Daily Deviation to me, by all means do so. I love hearing your suggestions, and I read and consider each and every one of them. All I need from you is this:

► I only accept suggestions for the Traditional Art Gallery.
► Send it to me in a Note with the title: "DD Suggestion" (or some other variance).
► Honest- I probably won't reply back to you.
► Please only send your suggestion to one gallery director.

Easy peasy, nice 'n breezy.

//report Desk

Has become something of a monster of late. We are trying to get some kind of hold on it, but reports are coming in faster than we can review them. Which, we are very appreciative of. but in case you are one to keep an eye on deviations you've submitted this is why they haven't been moved yet.

Hopefully we'll be able to tackle this and have it cleared away by the middle of next month; latest.

Just a note on how the reports are coming in. I've seen a lot of deviations being reported that are actually Copyright Infringements. //new Year, New Dreams

It's now full force into 2008.

Some may look at the change into the new year as just another day, others may feel it brings new hopes and dreams. How ever you personally look at it, I wish you the absolute best in all your endeavours. May 2008 bring you everything you've ever dreamed of and more.

I have been trawling through sub-categories the last week; compiling some features. Please take the time to check out these articles, it's only a glimpse of what these amazing galleries have to offer:

Power of the Political | 2007
State of the Surreal | 2007
Art of the Abstract | 2007

I still have a few more that I would like to feature, be on the look out for them as the month progresses.

//the Year in Review

2007 was a seriously amazing year. Not only for Traditional Art, but for deviantART as a whole. We saw our first official Traditional Art Day, special thanks goes out to `sbaraci (and her team of volunteers) for helping us make it happen. The Creative Spirit Contest proved to show how creative we can actually become.

Gallery v2.1 opened up to the general population.

Dozens of new Gallery Directors stepped up to the plate.

deviantART Film launched creating an entirely new way of expressing ourselves on here.

deviantART hit its 30,000,00th deviation.

Thumbcode was introduced into our notes.

and this is only a pebble in the pond of all of the amazing things that occurred in only a short span of twelve months.

//report Desk

Is something wicked. There is an immense amount of reports currently in the Desk and we are slowly chipping away at it. This means two things:

1) Most of you are taking the time to report miscategorised deviations and we thank and appreciate it. We definitely can't do this alone, so having so many of you take the time to sift through the subsections of each gallery means a lot to us. We thankyou.

2) People are either /not/ taking the time to submit their artistry into the correct category... OR they don't understand the gallery that they are submitting to. This could be a language barrier or a confusing description?

...what do we do about this? Currently we are all working behind the scenes to streamline the Traditional Art Gallery so that it's easier to use and navigate. During this, we are also going through the descriptions and slicing and dicing until we can come up with the absolute minimum and most concise way of explaining a sub-gallery.

Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps there is something that you've noticed during your daily trawls through the gallery that needs some sort of better explanation? I believe if we put our heads together, we could come up with some very simple and easy solutions to keeping the galleries neat and educating in the meantime.

//daily Deviation Suggestions

So you'd like to suggest a Daily Deviation to me? Awesome! Here are a few tips and tricks:

► I only accept suggestions from the Traditional Art Gallery.
► Send it to me in a Note with the title: "DD Suggestion" (or some other variance)
► Honest- I probably won't reply back to you. This has nothing to do with you and has everything to do with it's easier for me to make my decision spot-on
